Although the prior race qualifications made us think differently, the fifth race of the 2021 Formula 1 season held in the Principality of Monaco has been won by Redbull Racing driver Verstappen.

Max Verstappen secured his first win at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, with the cheers of a limited but warm audience. Although the qualification results were in favor of Monaco-born Charles Leclerc, a gearbox problem led to him having to retire before the Monaco Grand Prix got underway. This allowed Verstappen to take an early lead that he never imagined of, despite some pressure from the Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz.

For the Mercedes team it was an afternoon to forget, as Lewis Hamilton finished in seventh while a mistake in the pits led to Valterri Bottas having to retire.

With this extraordinary victory, Verstappen now has a four-point lead over Hamilton in the drivers’ championship standings.

Congratulations to Max Verstappen for his extraordinary performance!
